WINTER WONDERS IN THE NORTH with JOE CORNISH and TRYM IVAR BERGSMO

  • Vesterålen Norway (map)

2 - 11 FEBRUARY 2024 FULL! Sign up for waitinglist!

It’s a great pleasure to present a 10 day winter workshop in the north of Norway, led by the renown, and highly respected British landscape photographer Joe Cornish and Trym Ivar Bergsmo as a co-instructor. Joe is a great inspiration to professional as well as amateur photographers around the world. Its a treat to have him teach a workshop in Norway (his first!) in which he will generously share his experience, thoughts, his work and approach to photography.

We are going to explore Lofoten, Vesterålen and Senja. Probably the most beautiful and spectacular part of Arctic Norway. Fascinating islands with some of the most magical landscapes one can imagine. In addition to the landscape, the light at this time of the year is sublime. All together creating a wonderful basis for 10 unforgettable days in the Arctic.

PROGRAMME

We will be spending 3 nights in Lofoten, 3 in Vesterålen and 3 on Senja. A typical day would be to ge out after breakfast go to our first location and start photographing. Perhaps Joe or Trym Ivar has something they want to share with the group or parts og the group, thoughts on how to approach the location, something technical or more philosophical. When we have finished we will move on to the next location. We will be having our lunch in the car or outside if possible. After lunch we will continue to our next locations and photograph until its getting dark.

In the evening you will have time to look at and download your images. Joe and Trym Ivar will be available for questions related to post processing the images. After dinner we might have a presentation or we will be having review and feedback sessions on todays work.

We have planed several presentations and lectures that will be presented throughout the workshop. But our main goal is to bring you to as many amazing photo opportunities and locations as possible. The weather is not our master, but we take advantage of the variation and look at all the possibilities that arise in the transition between good or bad weather. That's when the most exciting and unexpected pictures come.

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTORS

JOE CORNISH

Joe Cornish has been a working photographer for nearly forty years, and has led workshops all over the world since 1997. Although devoted to his home land in the UK, Joe still loves to travel, and learn everything he can about the landscapes of planet Earth. His approach is rooted in the eye witness tradition, but as a dedicated printer/photographer he has also learned the vital importance of digital image editing to bring the image to life as a print. An Honorary Fellow of the Royal Photographic Society, Joe is also the first Chair of their new Landscape Distinction panel. He loves to help other photographers develop and grow as artists.

TRYM IVAR BERGSMO

Born and raised in Vesterålen, he studied photography (BA-degree) for three years in the USA and has worked as a professional photographer for more than 30 years. He has a strong affiliation to the Arctic landscape and has, via commissions and personal projects, photographed in Northern Norway, Svalbard, Sweden, Iceland and Greenland etc.

He has a predilection for landscapes. His personal projects are often linked to renditions of the landscape and its relation to the people who live in this part of the world. This has led to several books, exhibitions at home and abroad and photographical commissions. At present he is working on major documentation projects in Northern Norway, exhibitions and new books.

Bergsmo is arranging workshops with the LANDSCAPE as the main theme. His geographical knowledge and experience on the North is of key importance in the planning and implementation of these workshops, which cover the Arctic part of Norway (three northernmost counties).
