I have for a long time wanted to arrange a photo tour to Italy. Many of us have been there enjoying the culture, the food and wine, its history, the architecture and the landscapes. But did you ever think of combining this with photography?

Now is your chance! The Tuscany project!

On this tour I want you to experience one of the most beautiful towns in Italy. Florence has since the 14-1500 century been an important centre for developing the arts, architecture, philosophy, etc. The Medici family spent much of their fortune on creating Florence to become one of the most beautiful towns in the world. Still today you are surrounded by historical buildings where ever you decide to walk within the parameters of the old city.

I want you to be able to experience the overwhelming atmosphere of this town. The beauty and glory of the past is mixed with the modern world and creates a leap in time which is most fascinating and interesting to photograph.

Toscany is known for its rich agricultural and historical landscapes. We will be visiting some of the medieval villages on top of the rolling hills and cliffs. From there we will be overlooking the plains and vineyard’s so famous to anyone interested in wine and history. We will visit some of the famous sites with its iconic cypress alleys, rolling hills and classical farms.

MAIN GOAL

Besides enjoying this part of Italy and all that comes with it, together with other nice people, I imagine that you in your own way, return to home with enough photographical material to create your very own and personal “TUSCANY PORTFOLIO”

Hopefully this will create a direction for your photography during our stay which will be very helpful and create a focus that will be manifested in a beautiful collection of images.

We will be able to talk about this one to one during our trip and I will be guiding your attention to specific subjects or share  an idea on a location for how to photograph it. The first night I will also have a brief lecture to initiate some ideas and ways you can create this collection.

This is a photo tour, not a traditional workshop. There will be a couple of lectures. But both Carlo and I will be with you all the time and we are more than willing to share our professional and artistic knowledge and experience, both in the field and behind the camera. We will also suggest ideas for how to approach the different locations, to look at compositions and technically challenges that we will meet. The light at this time of the year can be very special in Tuscany and we will always keep an eye on changes and nuances. We want you to incorporate this into your images

If you like to get out to shoot the morning light before breakfast, you can do that. After breakfast we will be out photographing most of the day, having lunch somewhere on route/in Florence. If weather permits, we will go together to one of the viewpoints to overlook Florence at night, it is very beautiful!

Carlo Marrazza is a fantastic photographer. He has spent years photographing different groups of local people in and around the northern part of India. For this work he recently received the IPA and Lucie award in New York, which is amongst the most prestigious awards in photography. He has another jobb in addition to being a photographer, but his craft and vision is outstanding and very inspiring. He is also a very nice person. I feel honoured to have him working with us on this workshop!

If you like to work in black & white, both the countryside and Florence lend itself beautifully to both colour and b/w.

PROGRAM

We will be spending the 3 first days in Florence and the 4 last days exploring and journeying through Tuscany.

A guide will take us for a walk on our first day in Florence and share some of his knowledge with us. He will introduce us to some of the famous and beautiful buildings of the town and lead us to some hidden, but never the less, important and beautiful historical sites. The next days we will be on our own, but with the introduction to the town fresh in mind. You can to explore the town by yourself or together with some of the others from the group.

The following 4 days we will be guided by Carlo. He knows Tuscany very well. He will take us through some of the old villages, into the beautiful landscape and rolling hills of this famous part of Italy. We will be staying at marvellous accommodation and enjoy Italian hospitality, food and wine.

We will be staying together at the same hotels all the time. We want to make sure you can all photograph as much as you like. And also rest when needed.

There will be time to work on/have a look at your images, and we plan to have an evening or two in which we will share and look at each other’s work together. From experience we know this is a important and inspirational for the participants.

On the last day we will return to Florence. Those in need of gtting to the airport or transtation will be droped of there. Some of you might like to extend the stay in Florence before or after the workshop. Others may want to stay on or see other parts of Italy, of course you can do that. Within reason we will try to help you with i.e. an extended stay at the hotel in Florence. More about these practical details in the PDF.
